Ms. Washington stated that they are updating the practice field at the Hester Center and
they are clearing the grounds for another practice area and creating a soccer program as
another recreation alternative for the City. She commented that staff is meeting with
Congress Middle and Boynton Beach High Schools and working on an MOU with the
them to upgrade their fields to provide the City with additional fields for City recreational
programs and activities. The City is seeking to use school fields after 6 P.M. and on non-
school days and will have a maintenance partnership. It was noted that during the summer
and breaks, the fields are not used at all. She said that the City's baseball program needs
additional space, which this would provide.
2. Galaxy Park
Ms. Washington said that Galaxy Park is immaculate, that the lights are up, but the Park
has not yet opened, but it is ready for programming. She noted that there is a pickleball
court, batting cages, a bull pen, and that it is a wonderful space and nice addition to the
department. She announced that the Police Athletic League as well as the Blades
Travelling Baseball program will use the Park.
3. Pence Park
Ms. Washington announced that she will attend a meeting on Thursday to receive updates
about Pence Park. She said that they will have a facility there with office space and that
shade structures are installed there and at different parks in the City such as Kapok Park
and Barrier Free Park and the latter will receive new exercise equipment.
Chair Mondello asked if the exercise equipment at Barrier Free Park will be shaded as
the equipment gets very hot. Ms. Washington believed so and agreed to email Chair
Mondello with further information about it.
Ms. Washington also reported that they are installing a new shade structure at Hester
Community Center on the home field side of the football field and stated that football
season is starting on August 9111. She pointed out that Hester Center will host the Boca
Bowl as a practice facility and that they will host a Dolphin's football game tailgate activity
on October 12th and that tickets are $100, which includes a ride, the tailgating, and the
game. She advised that tickets can be purchased at City Hall.
Mr. Robertson pointed out that he looked at the City's website and it lists activities, but
that not all activities that were announced were listed online.
Chair Mondello explained that most activities take place on City grounds at City parks
and are handled through Parks. She said now they have a marketing department for the
entire City. The park activities listed by Ms. Washington take place at City parks. She
pointed out that the Comedy Night is not on the main city website, but is on the Recreation
and Parks page. She also said that the head of Events is leaving and the Recreation
Department will handle First Friday and the Pirate Fest is coming up in October.

Meeting Minutes
Recreation and Parks Advisory Board
Boynton Beach, Florida July 28, 2025
Chair Mondello inquired what other cities do with invasive seaweed that washes ashore
as there is so much of it.
Ms. Washington commented that Ms. Claude has received a complaint about it and there
is a meeting scheduled next month with Ocean Ridge, as it is their beach that is affected.
Discussion followed that Boca Raton cleans it up quickly, and Delray Beach is slow to
react. Ms. Washington stated that it is also a County issue.
Chair Mondello asked about after school programming for when school starts.
Ms. Washington responded that they have a program at the Sims Center for elementary
school students and they are developing a teen program at the Hester Center, which is a
more organized program, rather than it being a drop in program.
Mr. Doctor inquired about developing a counsellor in training program for the teens
because some of the kids age out of camp and need community service hours.
Ms. Washington explained that they have a City Junior Lifeguard program. They go
through the program and hire them as staff. She said that they are developing a
Counsellor in Training program because they need something for kids after 15 years old
and they have an Internship Program. She acknowledged that they need programs for
neighborhood youth.
Mr. Robertson commented that when someone goes to the City of Boynton Beach
website, there is nothing there that says one can download the MyBoynton app or to go
to the Facebook page. He said that they need a few headlines directing the viewer to
them and that the pages need to be connected.
Mr. Doctor agreed.
Mr. Robertson said that he will send Ms. Washington an email about it and she will report
it to Public Affairs.
Chair Mondello agreed and would send an email as well.
Dr. Pacilli explained that her neighbors can not find things on the City's website so they
go to Delray. She said that this conversation took place last year, and Mr. Johnson was
supposed to address it. She noted Fun Friday is not even on the front page. She said
Public Affairs dropped the ball and never advertises. It was noted that Lamar Jackson
was in Boynton Beach and no one knew.
