NEW BUSINESS IX. FUNDRAISING AND OUTREACH A. Youth Symposium Frank Ireland, Recreation Supervisor, stated that he was present to talk about the Youth Symposium at the Carolyn Sims Community Center. He said that at one point, the goal was to bring professionals to the Center to speak with the kids and have a question and answer session. He commented that the goal is to expose youth to different professions. He mentioned that in prior symposiums, they had individuals representing space building satellites for climate study, individuals from the Florida Panthers, Ricky Petty and others. He said that the turn-out was good, but the behavior of the kids was a bit disappointing. From there, staff had to make changes to the program as youth are not as career oriented as they used to be, nor are their attention spans as long. Mr. Ireland explained that now they take the kids throughout the different City departments, and to International Medicine on Congress Avenue that helps certify nurses, to expose them to different occupations. He mentioned that they always try to obtain a food sponsor and he is open to collaborating with anyone. 2 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida October 28, 2025 Chair Wilkinson commented that it appears that the Board will not be able to fundraise for them, but the Board Members can help with outreach or set up and be present at the event. She said there must be a room at the event to talk about the different advisory boards, and she noted that the students who attend are middle and high school students. Mr. Ireland said that the next Youth Symposium will be held on April 10th and they could use assistance with food and the Board could be one of the stations in the event and talk about what they do. Ms. Carter inquired what youth would be interested in such as cosmetology, becoming YouTubers, gaming, and professional sports. Mr. Ireland said that he tries to make sure the event has a balanced program. Ms. Carter suggested advertising it as a cosmetology and professional sports event and sneaking in other occupations. Mr. Ireland explained that parents push their kids to attend as students get six hours of community service. He stated that 35 to 50 students participate on a first come first served basis and the event is held from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. He pointed out that they hold it on a non- school day. B. FUNDRAISING AND OUTREACH Ms. Watson stated that Community Promise and St John Missionary Baptist Church always have a Fall Fest and Harvest Hop open to the community. She said that this year it will be held on October 31st from 5:30 P.M. to 8:00 or 9:00 P.M. She explained that they invite different organizations to come in and do trunks. They will have a costume contest for the littles and pumpkin painting, a DJ, a face painter, bounce house and various different games. She asked if this Board would like to have a trunk. Ms. Sagrans volunteered. Ms. Watson said that people volunteer their vehicles, pop open the trunk, decorate it, and participants collect candy bags from each trunk. She said that they will have different drawings throughout the night and attendees are asked to bring a canned good to stock up the food pantry. Chair Wilkinson stated that she would purchase some bags of candy and they will email the entire Board to solicit more volunteers. Mr. Camacho asked if the City Commission or the Board is doing something to support individuals who are impacted by the anticipated suspension of SNAP Benefits, and if they can work with the other boards to support the community for those who are furloughed. 3 Meeting Minutes Education and Youth Advisory Board Boynton Beach, Florida October 28, 2025 Ms. Davis said that the Community Promise Pantry is open every Wednesday and St John Missionary Baptist Church just had a fraternity and sorority contest to see who could bring in the most canned goods donations. She announced the Church is also opening another pantry that will be open on a different day called Ruth's Room. Ms. Carter advised that the Florida Crystals company gives big bags of rice and sugar. Mr. Camacho said that they can appear before the City Commission on November 41" and tell them that they came up with the idea to support the community by starting a canned goods food drive and if they can partner with the City Commission and other advisory boards. Chair Wilkinson suggested if the City is doing something, the Board can pitch in and if not, they will start something and will contact the other advisory boards and send further information to the City Commission by the second City Commission meeting. Ms. Claude advised that the City does hold a food drive for Thanksgiving baskets and she assumed it was continued this year. She noted that it is usually spearheaded by the City Clerk. She noted that the public can donate canned goods as well. Chair Wilkinson said that they can tie it in to the First Friday Event. Ms. Watson said that she believed the baskets were delivered to a non-profit to distribute as they had done that before. She commented that last year, there was a very large turkey giveaway at the Ezell Hester Center and they gave turkeys to the Church to include in their baskets. Chair Wilkinson said there are many groups doing something and some groups do this all year long. She stated that she and Mr. Camacho work with Greater Boynton Beach Foundation, who recently provided funds to the House of Grace who handles food distribution all year long. Ms. Watson also advised that there are two places that service retired veterans: one is Rustic Retreat, and another on Seacrest. She said a woman at the Woman's Club cooks for 10 veterans every week and the Girl Scouts provide sweets — all out of her pocket. Ms. Sagrans asked if there is a Toy Drive. It was noted that there is also the Shop With A Cop program. X.
