ARTIST PROFILE
ALASTAIR PLEASANTON
235 S W 13TH AVENUE
BOYNTON BEACH, FL 33435
Alastair graduated in 2021 from the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm
Beach with a concentration in Visual Arts. Alastair is currently a Junior in the Florida Atlantic
University (FAU) Studio Arts department with a keen interest in experiential design and digital
mixed media. He will receive an AA degree from FAU in Studio Arts this December. In the
future, Alastair would like to design and develop concept art or digital assets for use in the film
or gaming industries.
Alastair has worked in the family business, Boynton Ace Hardware, for many years. Some of
his job duties involve merging artistic flair with a practical marketing focus. From creating the
business logo and reworking the store’s marketing schema to mesh with that of the city, to
painting the dumpster with a Frutiger Aero aesthetic design to discourage taggers, Alastair has
successfully utilized art to accomplish the goals of promoting his local family-owned business.
Alastair’s portfolio will be presented on request.
The Mural Project
The mural is an underwater design in the Frutiger Aqua aesthetic. The popular Frutiger Aqua
style, prevalent from 2004–2013, combines semi-stylized depictions of familiar maritime flora
and fauna with bright, vibrant colors and dream-like futuristic imagery.
This mural is meant to focus on Boynton’s proximity to the ocean while also stimulating
interest in local fishing and diving opportunities, a key piece of Boynton’s downtown marketing
focus. The family has a long history of involvement in Boynton’s local fishing industry,
beginning with two great-grandfathers who were charter boat Captains in Boynton between the
1950’s and 1980’s. The family retains a keen interest in the conservation of the local marine
habitat as well as preservation of Boynton’s local history. This underwater scene both celebrates
our past and encourages future interest in marine conservation. The mural is intended to be an
artistic highlight in the fast-developing downtown area surrounding Boynton Ace Hardware.
