R26-036 RESOLUTION NO. R26-036 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON 2 BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND APPROVING THE CITY'S 3 APPLICATION FOR THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, BUREAU 4 OF ADVOCACY AND GRANTS MANAGEMENT FISCAL YEAR 2026-2027 5 VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT (VOCA) GRANT PROGRAM, AND IF 6 AWARDED, AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR OR CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT 7 THE GRANT AND EXECUTE ALL FUTURE DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED 8 WITH THE GRANT, SUBJECT TO LEGAL'S REVIEW; AND FOR ALL 9 OTHER PURPOSES. 10 11 WHEREAS, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) announced the availability of Victims 12 of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice. The purpose of the VOCA 13 grant reimbursement program is to support the provision of services to victims of crime. Services 14 are defined as those efforts that respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims, 15 assist victims of crime to stabilize their lives after victimization, assist victims to understand and 16 participate in the criminal justice system, and provide victims of crime with a measure of safety 17 and security; and 18 WHEREAS, the Police Department desires to apply for the grant to use the funds to hire 19 an additional victim advocate, enhancing their ability to provide comprehensive support and 20 services to victims in the community; and 21 WHEREAS, the City Commission, upon the recommendation of staff, has deemed it in the 22 best interests of the City's citizens and residents to authorize and approve the City's application 23 for the Office of the Attorney General, Bureau of Advocacy and Grants Management Fiscal Year 24 2026-2027 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant Program, and if awarded, authorize the Mayor or 25 City Manager to accept the Grant and execute all future documents associated with the grant, 26 subject to Legal's review. 27 28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON 29 BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT: 30 SECTION 1. The foregoing "Whereas" clauses are hereby ratified and confirmed as 31 being true and correct and are hereby made a specific part of this Resolution upon adoption. 32 SECTION 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby RESOLUTION NO. R26-036 33 approve the City's application for the Office of the Attorney General, Bureau of Advocacy and 34 Grants Management Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant Program, and if 35 awarded, authorize the Mayor or City Manager to accept the Grant. 36 SECTION 3. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, does hereby 37 authorize the Mayor or City Manager to execute the Grant application, Grant Agreement, and any 38 other documents associated with applying for and accepting the Grant that do not otherwise 39 increase the financial obligations of the City, subject to Legal's review. 40 SECTION 4.
