DIRECTOR’S DIGEST
May was a productive month focused on collaboration,
advocacy, and preparing for a busy summer season. I attended
the State of the City Address, City Commission meetings, and
the Palm Beach County Library Association Board of Directors
meeting, where I continue to support the advancement of
libraries throughout our region.
I'm also proud that we were able to send three staff members to
the Florida Library Association Annual Conference for
professional development, bringing back new ideas and best
practices to benefit our community.
Behind the scenes, our team has been hard at work gearing up
for an exciting Summer Reading Program, and we look forward
to welcoming residents of all ages for another season of
learning, discovery, and fun.

Archives Monthly Report - May 2026
• Processing a large amount of digital media from C Ds this month, most of it donated
by Ellen, our former Reference Librarian. There are loads of photographs documenting
the City's various library locations over the decad es, ranging from roughly the 1970s
up to the present day. It's been a fun mix of famil iar scenes, forgotten corners of old
library buildings, and snapshots of how both the li brary system and the City have
changed over time.
• Saw a somewhat higher-than-usual volume of research and reference requests this
month, which has kept me busy. Requests included lo cating historic books on Boynton
Beach, assisting a Ph.D. researcher studying the Woman's Club and local Black history,
researching a historic subdivision, and spending a fair amount of time combing
through aerial photographs, plat maps, and other ar chival materials for various
inquiries. As always, some questions have straightforward answers, while others turn
into a bit of a scavenger hunt.
• Continuing to accession donated materials into th eir respective collections. I am still
working through materials donated by Miss Gillian, which continues to produce
interesting local history finds, including items re lated to her time working at the local
radio station. Alongside those materials, I have also been processing various other
donations and additions as they come in.
• Providing assistance at the research desk as needed. Robby has been a great
equalizer here and has helped distribute desk coverage more evenly, which has made
it easier to dedicate larger uninterrupted blocks o f time to archives work when
needed.
• Still finding and correcting the occasional issue on the Archives website. Most of
these have been buried dead links, broken images, o utdated information, and other
assorted loose ends that only seem to reveal themse lves when someone inevitably
clicks the one thing nobody has touched in five yea rs (thanks Mike N. for finding some
SUPER buried broken links we had shared with FIU).
• In addition to routine website maintenance, I have begun putting together a plan for
a larger overhaul of the Archives website's navigat ion and overall user experience. The
goal is to make some of our most frequently used re sources—particularly
photographs, oral histories, and audiovisual materi als—easier to find without
requiring users to dig through multiple layers of p ages and menus. This is a project I
want to approach carefully, so progress will likely be gradual until I can carve out
more dedicated time in my workflow.

DIRECTOR’S DIGEST
June was an exciting month of growth, collaboration, and community
engagement. I attended City Commission meetings, the Palm Beach
County Library Association Board meeting, the City of Boynton Beach
Budget Workshop, and the American Library Association Annual
Conference, where I participated in breakout sessions and met with
vendors to explore innovative technology, programming ideas, and
new opportunities—including the possibility of launching a Pokémon
Club.
I am also pleased to share that the library was awarded two LSTA
grants totaling $36,080, providing additional resources to enhance
services for our community.
Summer Reading is off to a fantastic start! As of the end of June, we
reached 400 youth registrations, including 130 children ages 0–4, 218
ages 5–11, and 52 teens ages 12–17. Our youngest readers have already
enjoyed 110 books, while children and teens have logged 2,152 reading
minutes, and families have completed 240 library activities. In
addition, 120 adults have joined our Adult Summer Reading Club,
generously sponsored by the Friends of the Library. It's wonderful to
see our community embracing reading and lifelong learning together.

· Finally finished digitizing all of the CDs contai ning photos and miscellaneous files
from library events, holiday parties, staff functions, and other random happenings
spanning the '90s through the early 2000s. There are some great pictures of staff who
are still here today looking about 30 years younger.
· Continued the two-for-one project of digitizing m aterials from the Boynton Beach
church collections—helping answer current reference requests while also inching
closer to getting these collections online.
· Kept plugging away at Miss Gillian's collection, digitizing ballet programs that line up
with the 8mm films I digitized last year. The long-term goal is still getting all of this
multimedia hosted on our own website instead of liv ing exclusively on Archive.org.
(Archive.org is great, but it'd be nice if we could show off our own stuff ourselves on
top of an uncertain future for them ☹)
· The usual monthly grind of research and reference requests, helping out at the
Research Desk, and trying to keep the backlog from becoming too backlogged (I’m
getting there, I PROMISE).
· Continued making slow but steady progress through the ever-growing pile of
donations, acquisitions, and miscellaneous archival projects.

CreativeBug also saw increased engagement, with nin e active users logging over four
