R93-187RESOLUTION NO. R93-/~ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COM~ISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING GRANT FUNDING FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA BUREAU OF ENTOMOLOGY TO BE USED TO ASSIST IN THE RESEARCH ON CONTROL OF BITING MIDGES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, desires to construct a boardwalk nature center on 13 acres in downtown Boynton Beach; and WHEREAS, ~cause it will be a public park adjacent to a federal highway; and WHEREAS, because of the close proximity to the Intracoastal Waterway there is a dense population of biting midges or "no-see- ums" present; and WHEREAS, the United States Department of Agriculture, housed at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (I.F.A,S.) is home to the researchers interested in the biting midge situation and this property provides an excellent research opportunity; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA THAT: Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida strongly supports the efforts of I.F.A.S., the Department of Agriculture and Dr. Dan Kline in the control of biting midges, and are very appreciative of the time and efforts invested in this project to date. Section 2. The City Commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida wishes to submit a request for funding to the State of Florida Bureau of Entomology in cooperation with the other agencies to address the biting midge situation.
