A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION oF THE
CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING
THE 45th ANNIVERSARY OF INVASION OF EUROPE
BY AMERICAN ARMED FORCES, AND DESIGNATING
THE CITY OF SAINTE-MARIE-DU-MONT AS A SISTER
CITY OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the Armed Forces of the United States of America
initiated invasion of Europe at Utah Beach on June 6, 1944, ultimately
bringing to successful conclusion, World War II; and
WHEREAS, the participants in said invasion will be assembling
on June 6, 1989, in the City of Sainte-Marie-Du-Mont, France, for the
purpose of commemorating said event; and
WHEREAS, local resident Leon Smiles, who participated in said
invasion as a member of the 79th Infantry Division of the United
States Army will be attending said Commemoration Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, said Commemoration Ceremony shall be conducted by
the municipal officials of the City of Sainte-Marie-Du-Mont.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the residents of the City of Boynton Beach,
Florida, hereby officially recognize the heroic efforts of the members
of the Armed Forces of the United States of America in connection with
the invasion of Europe, which mission ultimately brought to successful
conclusion and termination, hostilities connected with World War II.
Section 2. That the City Comaission hereby recognizes and
appoints citizen LEON SMILES as official representative of the City of
Boynton Beach to the Commemoration Ceremonies recognizing the 4§th
Anniversary of the above invasion.
Section 3. That the said Leon Smiles is hereby authorized to
transmit to the Mayor of the City of Sainte-Marle-Du-Mont a certified
copy of this Resolution expressing the appreciation of the inhabitants
of the City of Boynton Beach, for hosting this ceremony, and to offi-
cially designate the City of Sainte-Marie-Du-Mont, France, as a Sister
City of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, with all honors and privi-
leges appertaining thereto.
