88-GGGRESOLUTION NO. 88-G,"C.,.C,,.' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOYNTON BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING PARTICIPATION IN A CURBSIDE RECYCLING PILOT PROGRAM TO BE OPERATED FOR A SIX TO NINE MONTH PERIOD BY THE SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY. WHEREAS, Florida State legislation in its Solid Waste Management Bill (CS/CS/SBl192) has established mandatory recycling goals for municipalities; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the environment to divert recyctable material from landfills; and WHEREAS, the City of Boynton Beach has successfully operated a municipal Recycling Center since March, 1982, where citizens can recycle aluminum and newsprint on a voluntary basis; and WHEREAS, in an effort to initiate curbside recycling throughout Palm Beach County the Solid Waste Authority will operate a pilot curbside recycling collection program for a six to nine month period in a manner so as not to interfere with the regularly designated hauler; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority and the City of Boynton Beach mutually recognize the advantages an~-oppQrtunities of pro- actively assuming responsibility for recycling; and WHEREAS, the pilot program will lend itself to the establish- ment of a long term, recycling program by demonstrating the feasibility and public support of curbside recycling; and WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Authority will provide assistance in the transition to a permanent program should the City opt to operate its own curbside program either internally or through a contractual hauler to realize the ultimate recycling goals as outlined in the Solid Waste Management Bill. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City commission of the City of Boynton Beach, Florida, that: A designated neighborhood will participate in a six to nine month curbside recycling pilot program operated by the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County.
